The River

The Mississippi River has acquired many meanings as it flowed through Minneapolis. Whether spiritual, industrial, recreational or ecological, the river's history and identity are close to our own. Now this mighty river acquires yet another identity: aquatic ecosystem that received the catastrophic collapse of the I-35 bridge August 1, 2007. What impact will the I-35W bridge collapse have upon our relationship with the river? These vital concerns over the river's many roles are addressed on a number of Web sites. Among them are:

  1. U of M River Life Program

  2. Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy

  3. U of M Institute on the Environment: Institute on the Environment

  4. U of M Institute for Advanced Study
